The motion

That this House notes with deep concern that Ospreys, Wales’ most successful professional rugby team may cease to exist as part of the Welsh Rugby Union’s intention to sell Cardiff to Y11 Sport & Media; further notes that this is the latest in a string of mismanagement from the Welsh Rugby Union; also notes that playing guarantees for Ospreys have only been given until the end of the 2026-27 season; disapproves the Welsh Rugby Union’s intention to reduce the the number of men’s professional rugby teams from four to three; highlights that this creates uncertainty for rugby players and for thousands of fans that might lose their team; notes the impact on the economy as hundreds of people will lose their jobs; believes that concerns from clubs and stakeholders must be addressed to ensure the long-term sustainability and credibility; and calls on the Welsh Rugby Union to ensure that all four professional rugby teams will not be impacted by the takeover.
