Eating disorder services

The motion

That this House expresses alarm at ongoing cuts to eating disorder services across the country; notes with concern the announcement that the Richardson Eating Disorder Service at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle is due to close, particularly given the next closest specialist inpatient facility is over 50 miles away in Darlington; recognises that receiving inpatient treatment outside of their local area and away from loved ones can be distressing and make recovery more challenging for patients; pays tribute to the hard work of staff across eating disorders wards and in community eating disorder services who support the recovery of patients so fewer people reach the point of crisis and everyone with an eating disorder can get the high quality care they deserve; and calls for every part of the country to have access to eating disorder services both in the community and inpatient wards where necessary.
