The motion
That this House believes that the Government has failed to prepare for another enormous spike in the cost of energy; notes with huge concern that the Ofgem energy price cap is now predicted to increase by up to £300 from July 2026; further notes that households across the UK are already struggling to make ends meet, with nearly 3 million people living in fuel poverty in England and a typical energy bill £478 a year higher in October 2025 than it was in October 2021; recognises that oil company shares have now soared to an all-time high; further believes that no energy company should be allowed to profit from this crisis whilst ordinary people can’t afford to heat their homes; thinks it is unacceptable that households are once again facing another significant spike in the cost of the basics; and demands that the Government commit now to preventing prices rising above the April-June price cap.
