125th anniversary of the British Standards Institution

The motion

That this House celebrates the 125th anniversary of the British Standards Institution (BSI) as the United Kingdom’s National Standards Body and the world’s first standards organisation; recognises the role of the BSI since 1901 in improving safety, quality and best practice across industry, public services and society; notes the BSI’s leadership across national, European and international standards that underpins Britain’s reputation for quality safety on the world stage; welcomes the BSI’s latest work on inclusive PPE and suicide in the workplace; commends the BSI’s long history from rail gauges to plug sockets which have enabled efficiency and economic growth; further commends all the work of the drafting panels and staff in developing standards that convene across industry and government; and looks forward to celebrating this significant milestone and supporting the continued contribution of the BSI to the UK and the global community.
