The motion
That this House pays tribute to David Colraine, founder of Clydebank Asbestos Group (CAG), who passed away on 17 January 2026; recognises his lifelong dedication to supporting asbestos victims, workers and their families, which made a profound and lasting impact on his community, one that has a rich industrial past; commends his central role over more than 30 years in advocating for asbestos victims, including securing early funding for the group, raising awareness through trade union activity, and representing the organisation at conferences and in parliamentary settings; acknowledges his contribution to the legislative progress benefiting asbestos sufferers, including compensation for pleural plaques in Scotland; praises his unwavering commitment, compassion and leadership in the fight for truth and justice for asbestos sufferers and their families; notes that Clydebank’s International Workers’ Memorial Day 2026 is dedicated to his memory; recognises the huge legacy both he and his work will leave on Clydebank and CAG; further commends the support of his family, especially his wife Jean; expresses its deep gratitude for his lifelong commitment to justice for those affected by asbestos in Clydebank and beyond; and extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends and all those who continue to be inspired by his commitment to fairness, dignity and justice in the workplace.
