England’s long-term water security

That this House notes projections of a shortfall of up to five billion litres of water per day in England by 2050; recognises that current policy relies heavily on demand reduction while supply infrastructure remains insufficient and slow to deliver; further notes concerns about fragmented regulation and the absence of a coherent national water security strategy; acknowledges growing pressures from population growth, housing demand, data centres and climate change; expresses concern that water scarcity is already constraining economic growth and housing development; and calls on the Government to accelerate the delivery of strategic water infrastructure, improve coordination across regulators and planning bodies, and ensure the long-term resilience of England’s water supply.
