Visibility, marketing and public safety of vaping products

The motion

That this House, while welcoming the provisions of the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026, considers that further action is required to address the widespread visibility and promotion of vaping products on the high street and the risks they pose to public health, the environment and public safety; notes in particular that the Act does not provide for a ban on vaping products being visible from outside shops, does not restrict the use of the word vape or related terms in shop names and signage, and does not adequately address fire safety concerns linked to lithium-ion batteries used in vaping devices; expresses concern that these gaps risk undermining efforts to reduce youth uptake and normalisation of vaping; calls on the Government to introduce stronger restrictions on the marketing and display of vaping products, including requiring that such products are not visible from outside retail premises; further calls for the alignment of vaping retail regulations with existing tobacco controls, including limitations on shopfront signage; urges an urgent review of fire safety regulations relating to vaping retail premises, particularly those operating in listed or heritage buildings; and advocates a precautionary approach to protect communities and safeguard property.
