The motion
That this House deeply regrets the negative economic impact of the previous Conservative Government's Brexit deal, which estimates suggest could have been as much as £90 billion lost in tax revenues in 2025 alone; expresses alarm at the worsening cost-of-living crisis for millions of Britons, and a continuing decline in living standards for the most vulnerable; notes with grave concern Vladimir Putin's continued war of aggression against Ukraine and threats to the UK and its allies, together with increasing uncertainty arising from President Donald Trump's approach to international alliances and security commitments; recognises that our reliable allies in Europe share our values and commitment to collective defence; believes in the urgent need to deepen trade and security ties with European partners; calls on the Government to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and strengthen Britain's defences by negotiating a new Growth and Defence Partnership with the EU; further believes that this should include negotiating the UK's access to the single market and a new UK-EU customs union; and urges the Government to work with partners to establish a new European Security Council, an intergovernmental, political forum with the goal of coordinating European countries' drive to deliver NATO's operational requirements, and to both join the Security Action for Europe programme and create a European Rearmament Bank.
