Dementia Heroes' contribution to the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

The motion
That this House congratulates Dementia Heroes on its leadership in helping to ensure that the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will become the first dementia-aware Commonwealth Games; recognises the organisation's successful advocacy resulting in dementia awareness training for Games’ staff and volunteers, helping to create a more inclusive and accessible event for people living with dementia, their families and carers; welcomes its partnership with Police Scotland to promote the adoption of the Herbert Protocol to improve safeguarding arrangements should a person living with dementia go missing during a public event; commends the delivery of the Going for Gold campaign, supported by the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Festival Fund, which brings together organisations including Pickleball Scotland, Playlist for Life, SAMH, Alzheimers Scotland, Glasgow Life Libraries, Glasgow Life and Age Scotland to deliver inclusive sporting, cultural and wellbeing activities in care homes and communities across Glasgow; applauds all the partners involved for their commitment to improving the lives of people affected by dementia; and expresses the hope that the legacy of Glasgow 2026 as the first dementia-aware Commonwealth Games will inspire future Commonwealth Games host cities to adopt similar standards of accessibility and support.
