The motion
That this House recognises 14 July as Emmeline Pankhurst Day, commemorating the birth of Emmeline Pankhurst, one of the most influential campaigners for women's rights in British history; celebrates her leadership of the suffragette movement and her unwavering determination to secure votes for women; acknowledges the courage and sacrifice of Emmeline Pankhurst and the many suffragettes and suffragists whose efforts transformed British democracy and advanced the cause of equality; notes that the extension of the franchise to women marked a defining moment in the United Kingdom's constitutional history, while recognising that the struggle for equal representation and opportunity continues; and believes that Emmeline Pankhurst's legacy serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of civic participation, democratic engagement and challenging injustice.
