The motion
That this House notes the very strong feeling about local government reorganisation among many local people in Newcastle-under-Lyme; further notes that both the hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council have set out clearly their support for a Newcastle-under-Lyme only unitary model; acknowledges the bonds of civic pride and history that people hold close; recognises that the current two tier system fails to deliver the services that local people deserve and leaves much power over the lives of the people who live, learn and work in Newcastle-under-Lyme in the hands of a small group of councillors at County Hall in Stafford; and calls upon His Majesty's Government to listen to the views of people in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
