BRITISH COAL REDUNDANCIES ASHINGTON

Tabled by Jack Thompson (Labour) 62 signatures

The motion

That this House expresses its deep concern at the announcement by the British Coal Corporation that they are to make 81 employees redundant at their engineering workshops in Ashington, Northumberland, despite the fact that these workshops have proved to be a major asset to the coal industry and have consistently been in profit in recent years; and is outraged that the British Coal Corporation is pre-empting the outcome of this House's Select Committee for Trade and Industry's review of the coal industry by this action, and showing an apparent lack of confidence in the Select Committee's deliberations.
