The motion
That this House notes that a large number of animals continue to be used in the safety testing of non-medical products; believes that the development of humane non-animal alternatives offers the best way of reducing the number of animals involved; urges Her Majesty's Government to promote and co-ordinate the development and validation of such alternatives; and further urges the Government to ensure that the new European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods at Ispra in Italy plays a fully effective role in this process.
