The motion
That this House should be aware of how the professionals within Lloyd's have favoured themselves and their close relations, as well as other Lloyd's professionals, by placing their own business on highly profitable and safe syndicates ahead of outside names; notes in particular that on syndicate 45, insiders comprise 36.33 per cent. of capacity, but when close relations of insiders are included this percentage rises to 63.5 per cent.; notices the case of Mr J. M. Donner, Chairman of Donner Underwriting, who looks after the interests of 531 names, of which only one name is on syndicate 45, namely his own for a line of £13,000, notices the case of Sir Peter Miller, Chairman of Thomas R. Miller and Sons, who looks after the interests of 140 names, of which only one name is on syndicate 45, namely that of his wife Leni for a line of £13,000; notices the case of Mr J. P. Tilling, Chairman of Gravett and Tilling, who looks after the interests of 23 names, of which only one name is on syndicate 45, namely his own for a line of £20,000; notices the case of Mr Murray Lawrence, Chairman of Murray Lawrence Members Agency, who looks after the interest of 752 names, of which six working names are on syndicate 45 with an interest of from £10,000 to £25,000, but by far the largest share is held by himself with a line of £38,000; notices the case of Mr David Coleridge, Chairman of Sturge plc, whose names agency looks after the interests of 1,523 names, but of which only nine names are in the ultra safe syndicate 431, two of which are Mr and Mrs Coleridge and of the remaining seven only one is not a working name or a relative of a working name; and notes that none of the above is on any one of the heavy loss making LMX spiral syndicates such as Gooda Walker, Feltrim, Devonshire, and Rose Thompson Young, whereas some of them have placed external names on those syndicates.
