CONDUCT OF THE EDITOR OF THE GUARDIAN

That this House notes that Mr Peter Preston, the Editor of The Guardian, having set himself up as the arbiter of conduct in public life, has in the course of his newspaper campaign laid himself open to charges of conspiracy to deceive, the theft of House of Commons writing paper and its improper use, the forging of a letter and the signature of an MOD official, the impersonation of a Government Minister, and the obtaining of a private document by deception; calls upon the Board of The Guardian to dismiss Mr Preston as Editor forthwith; calls for his case to be referred to the DPP; calls for his conduct to be investigated by the Committee of Privileges; and considers his membership of the Press Complaints Commission to be untenable, such that Mr Preston should resign immediately from that body.
