The motion
That this House pays tribute to the bravery of Police Sergeant Derek Robertson, an officer of the Metropolitan Police, who lost his life in the execution of his duty of protecting the people by tackling men allegedly engaged in raiding a post office, and extends to his family the deepest sympathy of honourable Members who believe that the courage and determination of individual officers and the support of their colleagues is the best guarantee that the rule of law will prevail; and calls upon the Home Secretary to convey these sentiments to the Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis and to assure him of the determination of Parliament to support his officers in the job they do so well in policing London.
