Quick answer
How much do MPs get paid?
£98,599 a year
The basic annual salary of an MP from 1 April 2026, set independently by IPSA. Source: UK Parliament: pay and expenses for MPs. Last checked 10 July 2026.
Some MPs earn more on top of the basic salary. Ministers, the Speaker, the Leader of the Opposition and the chairs of select committees all receive an additional salary for that role.
Expenses are separate from pay. MPs do not pocket an expenses allowance: they claim back business costs such as staff, office space and travel through IPSA, which publishes every claim.
