Petition · past parliament

Hold a referendum on electoral reform with the format used in New Zealand.

Closed 4,767 signatures

What the petition asks

A majority of the country believes that 37% of the vote should not give a party control of parliament.
The alternative vote referendum did not represent real electoral reform and was plagued with misinformation.
We deserve the chance to decide which voting system we want to use.
In 1992 New Zealand held a referendum in which the voted overwhelmingly to get rid of the first past the post system.

After this first vote a second was held to decide which new system to adopt out of a range of options which ensured more proportional representation.
