What the petition asks
Staff working within food and drinks establishments are having their hard earned tips and gratuities taken by the companies they work for and some staff are even having to pay any shortfalls in tips earned out of their own pockets.
Pizza Express has been in the news for taking tips earned by waiting staff, to boost their own profits. Similarly, today in The Guardian it was revealed that Turtlebay and Las iguanas have the following policy:
"that requires staff to pay back to their employer 3% of the table sales they generate on each shift. That figure rises to 5.5% in Las Iguanas’s London restaurants."
As this bears no relation to how much they get in tips, staff are being asked to fund the difference from their pockets.
