Create a safe haven within the EU for refugees
Rejected

What the petition asks
The Greek islands are being inundated with refugees. Some islands eg Symi are fundraising to provide essential water, food and clothing and medical supplies. This is a fantastic effort but the refugees need a safe haven within the EU for them to be taken. The Greek Islands are too small for this.
For evidence see what is happening on just one island in the Dodecanese which is near Turkey. Solidarity Symi is working hard to help these refugees.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We are not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
If you would like the UK Government to create a safe haven for refugees in the UK, we could accept a petition calling specifically on the Government to do that.
If you would like the safe haven to be elsewhere in the EU, the UK Government doesn’t, by itself, have the power to do this. If you would like the UK Government to work with the other EU countries to achieve this, we could accept a petition on that.
