Make the 5th of November a public holiday

Closed 43 signatures

What the petition asks

'Remember, remember! The fifth of November, the Gunpowder treason and plot...'

Did you know that the UK has the lowest number of public holidays in Europe?
Why should Bonfire Night be a public holiday?

1. It's nicely sandwiched between the August bank holiday and Christmas Day.

2. It's a day/night ripe with British history and intrigue. Let's keep the spirit of this celebration strong and give people something to REALLY look forward to.

3. It's a night always guaranteed to get whole communities out of the house and having fun together.

4. The government should be well up for this - we're celebrating the day Parliament didn't blow up...
