What the petition asks

Fireworks lit by responsible organisers at public events usually run smoothly and are a joy to watch, both at Guys Fawkes, new year and other similar events. However, for a fortnight either side of 5th November, the lighting of fireworks has become a social menace for some - pets and adults alike.

Pets become enormously distressed by the constant, unpredictable explosions.

Humans can suffer from stress if the noise pollution is excessive and covers unsocial hours or many days.

And there is the risk of malicious use, where they are intentionally used as missiles. Or incidents where lighting of fireworks leads to injury or even death, or damage to property.

Why it was rejected

There was already a petition about this issue. Duplicates are rejected so signatures collect in one place.

We already have three petitions on the subject of restricting the sale of fireworks:

Restrict the use of fireworks to reduce stress and fear in animals and pets

Ban the sale of fireworks to the public and introduce a licensing system

Make the purchase, possession and use of fireworks illegal without a licence.
