What the petition asks
Pre-registered nursing education is currently free and funded by the NHS. The money used to fund this is under threat in an attempt to reduce the NHS deficit. Keeping these courses free is VITAL in allowing people to become nurses and midwives as well as helping to protect our future NHS workforce.
Funding to become a Nurse or Midwife is under threat as government looks to save the NHS money and reduce the deficit. A nursing degree is unique due to both its practical and academic nature. Student nurses/midwives are expected to work as part of there course requirements that often incur extra costs. NHS funding also allows people who might not necessary be able to pay university fees to become part of our dedicated caring NHS workforce.
