What the petition asks
Gambling adverts have come to occupy a dominant place in advertising throughout all media forms. These adverts cynically prey on people's obsessive tendencies.
People who fight with gambling addiction are not reasonably able to avoid exposure to adverts that manipulate their weakness.
People who fight with gambling addiction are not reasonably able to avoid exposure to adverts that manipulate their weakness.
This is not to make the suggestion that gambling itself should be banned, because there are people who get enjoyment out of it.
The argument is that gambling should be canvassed only towards those that seek it out, not to the following:
>non-gamblers
>children
>gambling addicts
In the worst cases gambling addiction destroys lives. There are an estimated 350,000 people who suffer from addiction in the UK, all of whom are regularly exposed to gambling adverts.
