What the petition asks
Currently, in the UK, Conversion Therapy or ‘gay cure therapy’ is still legal even though many reports, including one from the UK Council for Psychotherapy, that states that this type of therapy is destructive.
We call upon the Secretary of State for Health to ban conversion therapy in the UK.
We call upon the Secretary of State for Health to ban conversion therapy in the UK.
In 2014 a consensus statement was released at the request of the Department of Health and prepared by the UK Council for Psychotherapy.
The report stated ‘There is no good evidence this works and we believe it has the potential to cause harm. Often these approaches are based on religious interpretations about sexuality rather than on a researched and informed understanding of sexual orientation.’
