Stop using shellac (E904) on fruit

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

Shellac is a wax/resin secreted from the female lac bug. It's used to cover fruits such as avocados and citrus fruits. This is becoming a wide problem for vegans as they believe everyone should be free from cruelty. Wether it be a person or a bug. Fruit is essential and vital
Everyone needs it
A lot of people have emailed businesses asking about E904 and been given a reply stating they use it on their fruit. Making local supermarkets' fruit unsuitable for vegans or people with allergies. We believe that fruit should be left and not treated with any form of cruelty as there is no need.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

This petition seems to be calling on businesses, not the Government or Parliament, to take this action.

You could start a petition asking Parliament to change the law, to prohibit the use of shellac on fruit.
