We kindly request a State Funeral for David Bowie

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

Bowie shaped generations and soundtracked the lives of millions. He was the ultimate cultural icon. We hereby request that Parliament and the monarch give consent to Bowie’s life being celebrated with a State Funeral. Fancy dress for those lining the streets of London should be obligatory.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government and the House of Commons do not have the power to decide that someone should receive a state funeral. You can find out more about this here:

http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN06600

You could start a new petition asking the House of Commons to ask the Queen for a state funeral to be given, and for the House of Commons to provide the money for a state funeral.
