What the petition asks

MPs are currently permitted to claim expenses for meals if they 'sit late' after 7.30pm on week days. This is not in-line with what Jeremy Hunt considers to be unsociable hours. MPs should lead where they expect the country to follow and not expect expenses for 'working late'.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We are not sure exactly what you mean by your request about MPs' working hours. If you mean that the sitting hours of the House of Commons should be changed, we could accept a petition asking specifically for that change.

Otherwise, MPs do not have set working hours. It is for each MP to decide what hours he or she wishes to work. If you think that MPs should have a formal contract setting out their working hours, you could start a petition about that.
