Stop any further pay rises or increase in allowances for MPs.

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

I am requesting that any proposed increases to MPs pay or allowances are stopped and that any future increase MPs receive are only increased in line with what the lowest paid public sector workers reciceve.
MPs work for the people of the United Kingdom, yet in times of austerity when the average public sector worker is seeing their pay rise at a slower rate than inflation, MPs keep having their pay increased. Enough is enough. We the public want this stopped and all public sector workers treated the same. Not one rule for MPs & one for all other public sector workers.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay or expenses. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay.
