What the petition asks
The removal of the Hard Shoulder has made it more dangerous to all users of the motorway. It is not possible to get to the next refuge if the car has lost power. At night or in fog there is no possibility to warn others following of the danger & recovering a vehicle is now more dangerous.
Tuesday 11 December 1984: A serious multiple Road Traffic Accident on the M25 near Clacket Lane, Kent; nine people were killed and ten injured.
One of the worst multiple vehicle accidents happened on the M25, where the hard shoulder has now been removed. Twenty-six vehicles and thirty one drivers and passengers were involved. The accident happened in dense fog, which seemed to have descended suddenly and nine people died in the subsequent accident.
