What the petition asks
In the interests of impartiality and the proper use of public resources it is vital that no one side in the forthcoming referendum on EU membership is seen to benefit from undue assistance from the civil service and special advisers.
It appears that the Prime Minister has authorised civil servants and special advisers to support the "Remain" campaign (_vide_ correspondence between Sir Jeremy Heywood and Sir Nicholas Macpherson).
