What the petition asks
The Equal pay act 1970 has been around for 36 years there is still no equality within gender pay.
Why are men paid more? Are they more qualified? Are they better at their job? No! This is illegal discrimination against women.

We want the law enforced so that when companies breech this act they receive a sanction, in the same way if a company was racist to a member of staff there would be a consequence for that action.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The enforcement of laws is the responsibility of the courts, which are independent of both Government and Parliament.
You could start a new petition asking Parliament to change the law, to provide for additional penalties for employers who breach the law.
