Students in full time education are eligible for free bus passes.

Rejected 18 signatures

What the petition asks

The use of the bus is vital for many families to provide a means of transport for their children to get to school as it relieves undue pressure on the parents and is better for the environment, however the price of catching a bus is very high if used regularly.
Bus journeys in England decreased by 0.6% compared to the previous year, so this would encourage this more environmentally friendly method of travel
By encouraging bus travel would help people who are unemployed have more time to find work as they wouldn't need to work around their children's school life in general
By having more people take the bus this will also eleviate problems of congestion on the bus routes

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. Local authorities are responsible for issuing bus passes to students. You could submit a petition calling on the Government to introduce and fund a national student bus pass.
