Petition · past parliament

Contain gender equality by placing 50% males and 50% females within Parliament.

Rejected 10 signatures

What the petition asks

Toby Helm highlights the huge concern over the under-representation of women in Parliament.

In 2014-15, 23% of MP's in the House of Commons are female.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The selection of candidates in seats is the responsibility of political parties and not the UK Government and Parliament as a whole.

You could start a petition calling on Parliament to pass a law requiring parties to introduce gender quotas for elections to the UK Parliament.
