What the petition asks

In 2011, there were some 806,199 Hindus living in England.
Cannabis has a holy origin through Lord Shiva. In India, intake of the substance peaks on Holi and Maha Shivrati (Hindu festivals). The legal status of cannabis limits religious freedom and prevents full and proper worship.
Cannabis is mentioned as a medicinal, magical and sacred plant in the Atharva Veda (dated 2000 - 1400 B.C.) It also calls hemp one of the five kingdoms of herbs which releases us from anxiety and refers to hemp as a "source of happiness", "joy-giver" and "liberator". It is used by millions to cleanse themselves of sin and to please Lord Shiva.
