Opencast coal mining involves the extraction of earth and rocks from the surface of a mining area where the earth will be blasted apart to get to thin coal seems within. This effects landscape, people, wildlife, agricultural land, etc. Then, after the coal extraction there is a large risk that the mining area could be abandoned and not regenerated as companies promised before they begun extraction.
