Do not grant funding for a replacement of Trident

Closed 614 signatures

What the petition asks

Trident is a set of submarines armed with nuclear missiles. They are considered to be "deterrents". The cost for these WMDs have been in the tens of billions. It is now on the table to replace the Trident programme, with something even more expensive. The "cheap" proposal is at 167 billion pounds.
"The overall cost of replacing and maintaining Britain's nuclear deterrent will reach 167 billion pounds ($256 billion), much more than expected, according to a lawmaker's and Reuters' calculations based on official figures." — http://reut.rs/1UybhEG

It is money that "would be enough to fully fund A&E services for 40 years, employ 150,000 new nurses, build 1.5 million affordable homes, build 30,000 new primary schools, or cover tuition fees for 4 million students." — http://bit.ly/1oY82dU
