Ensure the survival & funding of our high quality maintained nursery schools.

Closed 6,940 signatures

What the petition asks

Only 408 maintained nursery schools are left in England. 200 have been closed since1995. These extremely successful (97% are good or outstanding) inclusive places for children under 5 & their families are schools, but are not funded as schools, & thus are under huge threat of being lost forever.
Maintained nursery schools support higher than average concentrations of children with SEND & have the expertise & skills to support them successfully. They are extremely successful at closing the gap between the most disadvantaged children and their peers. They are led by specialist headteachers & employ qualified teachers & nursery nurses. 64% are in the 30% most deprived areas in England.
