Decrease MP's Salary and alter the law so they cannot vote for their own payrise

Rejected 15 signatures

What the petition asks

MP's have voted to increase their own pay when public sector pay has been frozen and in real terms has been decreased for the last few years. As public sector workers they should also be subjected to the same wage terms and should never be allowed to vote for their own pay increase again.
The public pay via taxes to subsidise parliament. MP's get a daily allowance when they get to do a priveledged job for food and their meals are subsidised in Parliment. Meanwhile public sector works get no perks are on less money for more hours have had an increase to NI contributions and changes to pension schemes and have had a real world pay decrease due to wages not rising in line with inflation. Meanwhile MP's vote a massive payrise for themselves.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

MPs do not vote on their own salaries - the Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay.

If you would like to contact IPSA about their decisions on MPs' pay, here’s how to contact them:
