What the petition asks
In Newport gypsies set up camp with 14 caravans and an array of luxury cars including two Mercedes, a BMW X6, and a Volkswagen, blocked hundreds of NHS staff from parking outside the hospital. Hospital spokesman Ms Hayman said legal advice was sought over how to eject them.
Can gypsies and travellers occupy any seemingly vacant land?
No, as mentioned above, they cannot simply occupy land because it is vacant, if it has not been designated for this purpose.
Gypsies or travellers should contact the local authority in the area in which they wish to camp to find out whether there is any space for them on a permanent, or temporary site.
