Make yearly bus fares free for compulsory education over 16
Rejected
14 signatures
What the petition asks
To go to sixth form or higher education you have to pay around £200 a year to afford bus fare. It's now compulsory to stay in education so make it free
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Bus fares are not set by the UK Government. Local bus operators (bus companies) are free to set their own fares. However, local transport authorities (usually local councils) have the power to set maximum fares in some circumstances.
If you would like bus fares in your local area to be lower, you could raise this with your local council. You can find out who your local councillor is here:

Alternatively, you could start a new petition asking the Government to provide funding for bus fares for people over 16 in compulsory education.
