What the petition asks
Every winter, thousands of people die in the UK due to the cold. In 2014/2015 the number of excess winter deaths rose to 43,900 according to the Office of National Statistics.
Although there is a clear link between excess winter deaths and the cold, the UK suffers from higher levels of excess winter deaths than a number of traditionally colder countries including Scandinavian countries such as Sweden and Finland.
Currently, the government does not have a national plan to reduce the number of excess winter deaths.
This petition is calling on the government to take action and introduce a national strategy to reduce excess winter deaths.
