Petition · past parliament

Hold political parties legally accountable for misleading facts in campaigns.

Rejected 15 signatures

What the petition asks

Time and time again debates on important issues are filled with false claims, inaccurate figures and blatant lies on both sides of every argument.

Parties and politicians should be held accountable to the same advertising and trading standards everyone else has to adhere to.
It's about time that political parties start to campaign honestly and with hard evidence to back up their claims. No more of this they said this they said that rubbish. No more fluffing of figures or tweaking of information. Give us all the REAL information and let us democratically vote based on that.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Parliament can only hold the Government and politicians to account politically, not legally. It's not clear what you want Parliament or the Government to do. If you want it to become a criminal offence for a politician to mislead the public, you could sign this petition:

Enact a law making deception and lying by politicians a criminal offence.
