Give option of dual citizenship to UK nationals wishing to keep EU citizenship
Rejected

What the petition asks
Those with a British passport, those born in the UK or to British parents since 1st January 1973, & those who have become naturalised citizens since then, had EU citizenship conferred on them in addition to gaining the status of "British citizen". Those people will lose that when we leave the EU.
There are rights and responsibilities associated with being an EU citizen as well as a British citizen, and we will lose these when the UK leaves the EU. This has never happened before in this country's history, so there is no precedent set. A mechanism for retaining EU citizenship would protect the rights of the individual, while respecting the wishes of the UK as a whole to opt out.
