Make a criminal offence of Electoral Fraud

Rejected 10 signatures

What the petition asks

During the referendum campaign both sides relied heavily on lies , misinformation and scaremongering. This proposal would make it an offence to use lies and misinformation in an election campaign. It would also apply retroactively to assurances given to the electorate that were then reneged upon.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Electoral fraud is already illegal. You can find out more about electoral fraud here:

You could start a new petition calling clearly for a specific change to the law.
