What the petition asks

The democratic mandate to take us out of the EU is very weak with a referendum majority of 51.9% and a turnout of only 72%. The majority (approx. 70%) of the elected members of Parliament are against us leaving the EU and such a significant event should command a Commons majority.

Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty that will trigger the UK leaving the European Union should only be invoked with a Commons majority in Parliament. What we ultimately need from the EU is a deal on the free movement of labour rather than people, something that will benefit all 28 members, and this may be endorsed through a second referendum.
