Petition · past parliament

Ensure all future national referendums need more than 50% of electorate to pass

Closed 37 signatures

What the petition asks

37% of the electorate took the decision for UK to leave the EU. I believe this to be anti-democratic.
A minority of the electorate should not be able to take the country in a new direction.

If an issue is so important it requires a national referendum, then to change the status quo it should be able to get more than 50% of the entire electorate, regardless of turnout. If it cannot get 50% of the entire electorate it should be deemed to have failed.
