We demand MPs have a free vote on invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

IMPORTANTLY: The referendum isn't legally binding, Article 50 of the Lisbon treaty (leaving the E.U.) must be triggered by the UK government:

We the undersigned request that MPs enact their constitutional and moral duty and have a free vote on invoking Article 50.
Article 50 has not yet been invoked. Invocation means separation from the European Union and the possible dissolution of the United Kingdom.

Parliament is sovereign, MPs are representatives, not delegates. 479 MPs are against leaving the E.U., we would urge these MPs to act. This approach has constitutional precedence, and would be legal.

David Lammy MP:

“The referendum was an advisory, non-binding referendum. Parliament now needs to decide whether we should go forward with 'Brexit' "
