What the petition asks
There is no better time than now, in the wake of the EU referendum, to finally and urgently outlaw the most damaging type of false advertisement - false propaganda. It has meant that we have voted to leave the EU on the basis of arguments which are untrue.
For example the false claim that the UK gives £350m a week to the EU which could be spent on the NHS which was emblazoned on the 'leave' campaign's battle bus right up until the very end.
The fact that making a false claim about goods for sale is a punishable offence but making a false claim to manipulate decisions about the future of our nation goes without sanction is ludicrous and needs urgent parliamentary attention.
