What the petition asks

The EU referendum was effectively a vote on the UK triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. Once the exit negotiations have been concluded, the UK should then choose in a 2nd referendum whether to Remain in the EU or accept the terms of the forthcoming exit negotiations with the EU.

Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty stipulates that “the Union shall negotiate and conclude an agreement with [the UK], setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for its future relationship with the Union”.

We the undersigned maintain that this withdrawal agreement between the EU and the UK should be subject to the approval of the people of the United Kingdom via a referendum, so that we have the option to retain membership of the EU if we so desire.

Why it was rejected

There was already a petition about this issue. Duplicates are rejected so signatures collect in one place.

Hold a second referendum on leaving the EU once exit terms have been negotiated.
